Newman’s Own

ABOUT NEWMAN’S OWN • RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

No list of Giving and Winning companies would be complete without Newman’s Own.  Newman’s Own is a wildly successful hybrid enterprise that contributes all profits to charity. Paul Newman’s personal passion was for his Hole in the Wall Camps.  Since 1988, the family of Hole in the Wall Camps has provided more than 119,374 children with a camp experience, all free of charge.  In addition to their summer camp season, Hole in the Wall Camps also provide year-round programs that include:

  • Family & sibling camps that allow the entire family to find comfort and support in other families facing similar situations
  • Bereavement camps that help families cope with the loss of a child
  • Reunion camps that bring former campers and staff together
  • Specialty camps, such as Double H’s adaptive ski program that offers exciting opportunities for children to experience new adventures
  • Hospital Outreach Programs designed to restore joy and laughter in the lives of children who are too ill to leave the hospital and attend camp

Newman’s Own is also dedicated to providing quality products.  Newman’s Own Organics was founded in 1993 by Paul Newman’s daughter, Nell Newman. It became a separate company in late 2000. Their motto is “Great Tasting Products That Happen to Be Organic.” Their products include organic pretzels, cookies, popcorn, chocolate bars, peppermint cups, peanut butter cups, olive oil and vinegar, dried fruit, fair trade coffee and pet food.

Newman’s Own success is indeed an inspiration.  As James Austin, chairman of Fairfield University‘s School of Business initiative on social enterprise said, “Newman’s Own reveals the synergistic relationship between the social purpose and the commercial operations.” Since 1982, over $300 million has been given to thousands of charities.
